Padma guides people to
find freedom from stress, confusion and pain. Her counseling uses meditation,
discussion, yoga and study.
Padma is one of
Canada's best-known teachers of meditation and yoga. Padma hosts a
nationally syndicated tv series on meditation and yoga called 'Living Yoga with Padma'.
She developed, wrote and hosts the 65 episodes of the series.
Padma is the author and producer of a series of
educational DVDs.
Padma studied advanced
meditation in the western Himalayas of India for a decade. She learned to read
and master original Sanskrit texts of meditation philosophy and is authorized to
teach by the International Meditation Institute of India.
Padma lived independently in the rural Himalayas, studying Sanskrit texts,
meditating up to 6 hours per day, and learning the subtle arts of yoga including
Sanskrit, chanting, breath-work, philosophy, mantra, tantra, and hatha yoga. She
mastered scriptures in the original Sanskrit such as the Bhagavad Gita and
Patanjali Sutras among others.
Padma's life in the Himalyas was rustic and minimal. Her daily life included tasks such as boiling and filtering drinking water, building a fire for heat in the cold winters and surviving extreme heat in the summer. She cooked and lived with no electric appliances, modern conveniences, or hot running water for eight years! With no western movies, music, cafes, telephones, tv or computers, she spent the years in meditation and study.
Padma holds a B.Sc. in Biology from McGill University. She worked in
Environmental research for the Federal Government of Canada.
She has developed an innovative program which perfectly unites ancient eastern wisdom with western
scientific philosophy. In Canada, she has been educating yoga teachers, doctors, lawyers,
government and corporate clients in the subtle yogic arts of healing the body and clearing the mind.
Padma was director of the Padma Yoga and Meditation Center in Vancouver, B.C.
She leads international courses, workshops
and retreats in Canada, the USA, Mexico and France. She was a board member of the Yoga Association of B.C. and
is a 'YABC Senior Teacher'.
Now acting as the Director of Meditation and Yogic Studies at YYOGA in
Vancouver, she is designing meditation teacher training programs and continuing
education workshops.
Padma's corporate clients include CBC Radio, Public Health Canada, Ballard Power, Simpson & Thomas Lawyers, Intrawest, Porte Realty and Bolder Investments. Padma is currently an ambassador at the Lululemon flagship store in Vancouver. Her dvds are featured in Lululemon stores where she conducts meditation classes for the staff and customers.
She hosts a weekly show on CBC Radio One every
Saturday morning at 6:45am, 690AM Vancouver. This show returns in the fall of
2008.

"Just to be in Padma's presence is to feel her radiance and resiliency, never mind her vast knowledge of the yoga sutras and understanding of the Sanskrit language. Padma inspires us to live life fully." -Kate Potter, Yoga Therapist
"The name Padma was offered to me when I lived in
India. It was easier for the local people to recognize than my English name,
Marla. Padma means "Lotus" and represents human wholeness.
As I meditated on the meaning of my name I found it very powerful to
identify with the qualities of expansion, awareness and spiritual perfection. It
was a renewal for me. The lotus represents the spiritually awakened mind,
existing united with the relative world. It is full integration of spirit and
matter. The divine beauty of the transcendent flower is one with the roots,
which are deeply and completely apart of the earth.
Padma epitomizes the essence of perfect "yoga", the state of union of a human
within themself and with the universe." -Padma
